Introduction to Kauai

Kaua'i is an island full of splendor, raw beauty, culture, aloha, and ancient lore. Visiting the island of Kaua'i is like a journey back in time, back to the beginning of the main Hawaiian chain. Kaua'i is dubbed the "Garden Isle" for good reason, it is by far the 'greenest' of the islands and thus the most lush in all of Hawai'i.

Kaua'i is the fourth largest landmass in the Hawaiian island chain that includes eight major islands and 124 islets. The archipelago consists of numerous volcanic islands in the central Pacific Ocean stretching in a 1,500-mile crescent from Kure Island in the northwest to the Big Island of Hawai'i in the east, encompassing an area of 6,459 square miles. Kaua'i is the oldest of all the main Hawaiian Islands, dating back some 5.1 million years. Of volcanic origin, the highest peaks on this mountainous island are Kawaikini, at 5,243 feet, followed by Mount Wai'ale'ale near the center of the island, at 5,148 feet above sea level.

The raw beauty and natural landscapes carved and etched into the isle through time make it a destination like no other. Some might say Kaua'i is as close to a masterpiece of creation as you'll ever find. From the lush valleys of the Na Pali coast to the deep and arid canyons of Waimea, Kaua'i is sure to please, delight, and amaze you like no other Hawaiian island can. After visiting Kaua'i, you may never view the rest of the world the same way again. Even the locals from the other Hawaiian islands come to vacation on Kaua'i - it's that good.
